December 2024 – In the lead up to one of England’s most fabled football fixtures, the Manchester Derby, Asahi Super Dry 0.0% has worked with football analysts Opta and Manchester City FC to produce a limited edition collection of Derby Day scarves, uniquely inspired by two of the most memorable derby days of recent years across the mens and womens game.

The all-new Derby Day scarves are etched in Manchester City folklore, as data from two of the most iconic Manchester Derbies has served as the blueprint for the unique designs, with each stitch bringing to life a key stat from the matches, including possession, shots, goals and key incidents - encapsulating the essence of each iconic encounter.

The scarves are available in two different versions – each of which brings to life City’s biggest Derby Day wins: Manchester United 1 – 6 Manchester City (October 2011) in the Premier League and Manchester City 3 – 0 Manchester United (Feburary 2021) in the WSL – renowned for iconic moments including Mario Balotelli’s ‘Why Always Me’ celebration and Caroline Weir’s stunning chip over Manchester United keeper, Mary Earps.

Fans can scan a QR code on the scarves to be linked to in-depth analysis of the Derby Day fixtures from Opta and refresh their Manchester City trivia, re-living some of the most legendary moments in the history of this illustrious rivalry.

The limited-edition scarves have been revealed by Manchester City legends Joleon Lescott and Steph Houghton, both of whom featured in the fixtures that inspired the scarves.

Playing in the Manchester Derby was one of the biggest honours of my career, and it goes without saying that the 6-1 win at Old Trafford was truly unforgettable” said former Manchester City defender, Joleon Lescott. “Asahi Super Dry have done an amazing job of immortalising that day with the new Super Scarves – I think fans will love them.

Steph Houghton, former Captain of Manchester City Women said: “Some of my favourite football memories came from playing in the Derby, and it’s great to see Asahi Super Dry bringing these to life and recognising that famous win we had over United back in 2021. I’m hoping for a similar result in the next one!

Robert Hobart, Marketing Director, Asahi UK said: “Football fans everywhere know that Derby Days are different in Manchester and it’s a fixture that’s brought us so many iconic moments, so we wanted to create something special for fans. We think the Derby Day Scarves do a fantastic job of paying tribute to some of the greatest match-ups of recent years and taps into a piece of kit that every fan and player can wear with pride.”

The Derby Day Scarves, which have been unveiled to mark Asahi Super Dry 0.0%’s sponsorship of the current Premier League champions, will exclusively be available at Asahi Super Dry’s The Cityzens’ Arms, giving fans the chance to wear a piece of history. Taking over The Waldorf on Gore Street, The Cityzens’ Arms has been designed to celebrate the crisp, refreshing taste of Asahi Super Dry and the heritage of Manchester City Football Club – serving Asahi Super Dry and Asahi Super Dry 0.0% to all fans on Derby Day.
